Bushfires in Victoria

Last Thursday I drove down to Victoria (10 hours) with the boys to go to my nieces wedding. As we approached Melbourne, we could smell smoke from inside the car and we could see huge smoke clouds as evidence of the terrible bush fires that have destroyed so much of the state. It was dark as we drove through the section of freeway that had been closed several days earlier so we weren't able to see the full extent of damage, however on our return trip today we were shocked to see houses and farming sheds along the freeway burned to the ground.

Thick smoke filled the sky on our trip down.

These pictures were taken on our trip home today. You can see how the fires crossed the freeway. This continues for several kilometres.

These pine plantations have been destroyed.

Our hearts and prayers go out to all the victims of the fires and I really hope that the arsonists responsible are found soon.

It looks horrendous and it must have been horrible just smelling the smoke in the atmosphere. We sympathise with all those affected, it's heartbreaking.

What we've seen on the news over here has been absolutely heartbreaking. Can't begin to imagine being in that situation. Glad you were all safe on your trip.

That's so sad to see. I heard on the news today that because of all the water they've had to use to put out the fires, Victoria could be facing a water in the near future.
