Andrew has become obsessed with feeding the birds around our house. It is a nice side of him and I am glad he has an appreciaiton for nature, but unfortunately all that feeding is leading to a little too much 'nature' in the form of bird poop, all over our new deck and railing.
I have suggested that perhaps we start to wean the birds from their 'easy meals' and let them develop their own hunter/gatherer skills. After all, they managed to get fed before we arrived here.
Cockatoos, are my least favourite, as they intimidate the pretty smaller birds by gathering in a group and making so much noise. Andrew also seems to have noticed this personality trait in the cockatoos which was evident when he re-named the species, "Bikies (bikers) of the Sky."
This picture reminds me of someone keeping a look-out while the others are up to no-good.

Wow! All that nature right on your deck!
They're so beautiful - who cares if they're bullies? Did you read the story on Em's blog about the Cockatoo?
I am jealous - of the birds, but not the poop!
Tara, yes I read it. I have no doubt they are very clever.. and look out for one another. I just wish they were smart enough to not poop on the people who feed them!!
Yeah, cool but a mess. Plus I would miss having the rainbow laurakeets (sp?) around. They are one of my favs..
I'm sure I'd get frustrated with that too, Lies. However, since all we get around here are a few robins, it's hard for me to sympathize.
As a current chronic insomniac I think I would hate the racket they make if I'd dropped off to sleep just as it was getting light ...
I love you entries! truly entertaining. I must get a job or something because the bird story amazed me. Start up a bird documentry for me ok. i love birds too as we had them flock to us in castle hill.
